Plaque that contains harmful bacteria can cause an inflammation in your gums, called gingivitis. Bleeding gums when you brush your teeth is a sign of gingivitis.
Gingivitis can be eliminated by adequate oral hygiene. Plaque, if not removed can calcify and turn into scale that can in turn cause gum disease. Treatment of gum disease consists of oral hygiene instructions and removal of the plaque and scale around your teeth. Oral hygiene instructions and descaling are integrated in your recall appointments. When necessary we will advise you to see our dental hygienist to carry out a more extensive oral hygiene instructions and descaling. Advanced gum disease sometimes needs specialist attention.
We may need to refer you to a specialist dentist depending on the severity of the gum disease. We have a long-standing relationship with specialists at Carmelite dental practice.
